Reading, reviewing and book blogging have taken over what's left room of her life after being a stay-at-home mom to four rambunctious daughters and wife to a slightly- absent-minded professor of political science.
And yet, while theres a lot to juggle in this book, it doesnt seem crowded. In fact, there were times — especially with characters; the setup for Octavian is intriguing, but riordan never really goes anywhere with it — when I wanted more, not less. As I mentioned before, percys back in all his lovableness, and its quite refreshing to see him from other points of entry view. And Frank and hazel were just as awesome to get to know. The overall plot arc is coming together slowly, but riordan leaves a lot of threads hanging and a lot of questions unanswered. Its fun fluff, great for those of us who are fans of the series. Rated: Mild for violence and intense situations.
Theres everything weve come to love in a riordan book: action-packed sequences; a wee bit of sweet, innocent romance; humor (and good,"ble lines and many, many references to mythology. (Im not sure hes pulling from myths anymore; I dont know guaranteed Roman mythology as well as Greek. That said, Im not sure it matters at this point.). Additionally, for this one especially, it helps if you know your Olympians series well. Thankfully, ive just finished reading them aloud to my daughter, so they were pretty fresh in my mind. There are references to that series all over the place, from hints about Percys past (in one of the more clever pulls, reyna, one of the praetors at Camp Jupiter, was one of the people in Circes employ that Percy came across. The sea of Monsters.) to references of what Percy has accomplished in the past four years.
(Even though we fans havent; I was interested to see how riordan would handle that, since we knew that Percy would have amnesia by the end. The lost Hero, and I have to say that he did it well. Having the book be in third person rather than first, as the first series was, helped a lot. As did multiple points of view; I found it fascinating to see percy from viewpoints other than his own.). He shows up at Camp Jupiter — the roman equivalent of Camp Half-Blood — and meets Frank Zhang, a halfblood with an interesting past and a curse to carry, and hazel levesque, the daughter of Pluto (aka hades) who isnt really supposed to be alive. The three of them are sent on a quest by mars (aka ares, though I have to admit that I like mars a whole lot more than I liked Ares) to face the giant sons of gaea (the new bad guy unleash death, and get. As usual, riordan tells a compelling and entertaining story, playing on his two strengths: plotting and characterization. This one is shorter than. The lost Hero, but not by much, and riordan packs in as much as he possibly can.

The son of Neptune purchase links: Hardcover, kindle Edition, m Audiobook, related book reviews, related book reviews. Ill be honest, i wasnt sure about this one when I started. It doesnt work as argument a standalone book as the beginning makes no sense unless you have already read The lost Hero. However, if you have read The lost Hero first, then there is no suspense about why percy jackson has lost his memory or whether he will regain. In fact a second book in a row where the hero has amnesia is tedious in places. Camp Jupiter is also less welcoming risk than camp Half-blood, which makes it harder for the reader to invest in the characters.
I cant help but feel that the first two books in this series would have been better had the events happened simultaneously so that they could have been entwined in one book. Fortunately, frank and hazel from this book are strong enough to win the reader over, and the second half of the book is enjoyable. There are also enough teasers at the end to promise that the third book, the mark of Athena, will be a good one. Were glad youre back. We join up with him as hes running across the california landscape, being chased by gorgons who cant be killed for some reason, trying to get somewhere. See, hes lost his memory, and he doesnt know who he is or where hes really going.
This is a book that is hard to discuss without at least some spoilers. The percy jackson Series was a complete series based around the character Percy jackson, son of the Greek god Poseidon, as he discovers that he is a demigod and works to save the gods from being other thrown by the titans. This series is after the first series, but has some of the same characters. so i would read Percy jackson first, then this. In the first book (spoilers start here) we are introduced to jason Grace, son of Jupiter and his two friends leo and Piper. What is revealed at the end of the first book is that the Greek gods also have roman sides to them and there is a whole world of Roman demigods that have been kept apart from the Greek demigods.
Jason was from the roman side and was sent to camp Half-Blood (the Greek side) by hera in order to join the Greek and Roman demigods together to overthrow gaia and the giants. In this second book we find that Percy jackson was also sent by hera to the roman Camp Jupiter. Percy has lost his memory (as had Jason) and has to find his way in the roman camp and then participate in a quest to save the roman camp from destruction. These first two books are nicely parallel without being repetitive. But my assumption is that from book 3 on the series will move together. If you liked the previous books this is more of the same. Riordan continues to write good prose that really captures well the coming of age issues, identity, separation from parents, fitting in, early romance, etc. This really is a good series. book 3, The mark of Athena does not come out until Oct 2, 2012.
